LR-3200 receiver holder

The LR-3200 is a hearing assistance system very similar to an in-ear monitor system. There is a base station which sends out audio, and a wireless pack with an earpiece which receives the signal. The budget did not allow for an expensive charging station and stand system for it. So I created a stand with FreeCAD and my 3D printer. It doesn't have fancy charging capabilities but it atleast stores them neatly.

Final Result

My first attempt took place in two stages. The first step was printing a single stand for one receiver. Then I would print out four connected pieces.

First prototype

The prototype fit like a glove, so I went and printed all four holders. But while it was printing I realised a problem. The indicator light indicating that the pack is charges is on top of the wireless receiver. With this stand, the top of the receiver is facing down. I had to have that end facing down because the charging port is on the bottom. Once the model came off the print I had another problem, the devices didn't fit. When 3d printing there is a little bit of play, one part the filament and the other mechanical imprecision in the print head. Together, while the model didn't change, the tolerance was too low and that play led to them not fitting. When the prototype fit so well, I should have assumed to add a little extra play.

First prototype (x4)

The next iteration I rotated the device to its side, so both the charging port and indicator light could be shown. On the first print I didn't leave enough room for the clip on the back, so it took a few prototypes.

Second prototype

Finally I printed it in a bank of four.

final result

Interestingly, there is some printing artefact where there is a slight overhang where the walls rise over the base of the stand. I don't know why this is happening, someone more versed in 3d printing may have to tell me.
